BMX Headsets

Filter
A headset in any bike is the bearing system that connects your frame to your forks. Over the years they have come in many different shapes and sizes however in BMX specifically there's normally only a couple things to look for. Firstly you want to establish whether your bike has an Integrated or External Headset. An external headset is more a traditional style headset. In this type the Bearings sit in cups that are pressed into the frame's head tube. With an Integrated Headset the bearings are all in sealed units, these bearings press fit into a frames specifically manufactured cups that are part of the frame. Basically eliminating the need to have cups that press fit as they are built into the frame. A lot of entry level bikes have external headsets but most BMX bikes from £350 plus with have integrated.

Finally the only other thing to look out for with headsets is Head Tube Diameter. Most BMX bikes feature 1 1/8th inch Headsets. This is basically the thickness of the fork steerer tube, however some Race Specific BMX bikes for younger kids may feature 1 inch headsets. On the whole most BMX bikes take a 1 1/8th inch headset.
